Stone Arch at Badby Woods by Marianne Follett

History

Badby and District Photo Club has been an established part of the community for over 30 years. A calendar of events is published every year and it is designed to reflect the interests of the club members. We meet on every first, third, and fourth Wednesday of the month from September to June in Badby Village Hall, three miles south of Daventry.

The beautiful Northamptonshire village of Badby, edged by the renowned Badby Woods, known for their abundant springtime display of bluebells, surprisingly was not the inspiration for the birth of a camera club. It was in fact three village neighbours in Park Close; Dennis Baldwin, Reg Ireland and Ted Pacey with their shared love of photography who were the catalyst for the club’s creation. In 1981 Dennis put on a photographic slide show for local residents entitled “Our Village”. The resulting enthusiasm led to the formation of the “Badby and District Photographic Society”. Very soon the society became well-respected and recognised within the photographic circles of Northamptonshire and has remained so ever since.

In 2001 the name was changed to reflect the spirit of the new millennium. The friendly atmosphere at club meetings is legendary and the club has embraced the digital revolution in image making with zest while still retaining its roots in traditional photography.

Programme

There is a varied programme of speakers, practical nights, internal and external competitions, that fulfil the main photographic needs of its members. Meetings are in Badby Village Hall on the 1st, 3rd, and 4th Wednesday nights from September through to June. The club’s catchment area extends beyond Badby, taking in all the villages within a 15 mile radius as well as Daventry Town. The club is open to anyone who enjoys photography and image making. If you have an interest in photography at any level, you will be made most welcome at Badby and District Photo Club.

Time of Meetings

Meetings begin at 7.45 p.m. for 8.00 p.m. and normally finish at 10.00 p.m. A charge of £2 helps to pay for refreshments and the bookings of venues and speakers.
